West ‘must avert danger of war’ about Syria crisis, claims Russia’s UN envoy – as Trump weighs navy possibilities

The Russian ambassador to the United Nations has urged the US and its allies not to just take military motion over the evident chemical attack in Syria, declaring the fast precedence was to “avert the risk of war”.

International tensions have spiked over the assault, with Washington holding Russia partially culpable for what they consider is the use of chemical weapons on the town of Douma by the routine of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Moscow has backed Syria in denying allegations of the assault, and Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia explained he “cannot exclude” war among the US and Russia if President Donald Trump employs missile strikes on Syria, as he has threatened.

 “The speedy priority is to avert the hazard of war,” Mr Nebenzia reported immediately after a guiding-shut-doors meeting of the UN Security Council. “We hope there will be no level of no return.”

He extra that the presence of Russian troops in Syria, with Moscow backing the government of Mr Assad in the country’s civil war, meant that the earth was experiencing a risky circumstance.
